The head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, is optimistic that midfielder Alhassan Yusuf will play in their second group game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Yusuf made his competitive debut for Nigeria in the 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea.
However, he was stretchered off in the second half and was replaced by Joe Aribo.
The Royal Antwerp midfielder put up an impressive performance in the game.
Peseiro, who refused to provide any information on the severity of the injury is hopeful the player will be available for his side’s next game against hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
“I don’t know much about his (Yusuf’s ) injury for now, but we are hoping is nothing too serious,” Peseiro said at his post match interaction with the media.
“He started the game because he deserved to play, he played well from the first minute.
‘We hope he will be able to play the next game against Cote d’Ivoire.”
