Singer Davido set to pay former NFF president, Amaju Pinnick N30m over breach of contract

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke better known by his stage name, Davido is set to pay former President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick N30m.

We reported days back that A Delta State High Court sitting in Effurun had refused the singer’s application seeking a stay of proceedings in the N2 billion suit filed against him by Amaju.

During the hearing of the case, Davido’s counsel informed the court that there was a pending appeal and that the defendants, Davido and his record label had filed a motion for a stay of proceedings. However, he applied to withdraw the motion and submitted that the Court of Appeal had become seized with authority over the proceedings pending before the lower court.

The Counsel to Amaju didn’t oppose the application to withdraw the motion and the court granted the same. Unfortunately, the court in a bench ruling upheld the claimant’s argument and held that until an order saying further proceedings is obtained from the Court of Appeals, the High Court will continue with proceedings in the case.

In an update to the case by Daily Post, the singer has agreed to settle the breach of contract suit filed against him by Amaju at the High Court of Delta State, Effurun.

Davido is set to settle the dispute out of court and has agreed to pay N30 million to Amaju, being a part contribution to the claimant’s outstanding legal fees in the suit within seven days of execution of the terms of settlement.

Recall that last year, the Former NFF president had publicly called out Davido for failing to honor his contract, as he expressed displeasure at how Davido failed to show up at his event despite paying him an exorbitant amount and booked a private jet for his crew.

He went on to compare Davido to his rival, Burna Boy, who he stated was far above him. Replying him, Davido told him not to throw a stone at a glass house as he bragged about headlining without no one stopping him.

Taking a dig at him, he stated that he would donate money to NFF since they are suffering. His personal logistics manager, Isreal DMW had even defended them, telling Amaju Pinnick to tell the world the truth.

In a surprising twist, the singer later bowed to pressure as he apologized to his fans in Warri, explaining the reason for his absence.

Following this, Amaju Pinnick filed a lawsuit against Davido, seeking N2.3 billion in damages.

To add to it, he was seeking an injunction to prevent Davido from performing at any show or event in Nigeria until he refunded the payment he received.
