Premier League: Liverpool extend lead at the top by three points

Liverpool defeated Newcastle United 4-2 on New Year’s Day, to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table by three points.

The Reds began the game at the summit, after Arsenal lost 2-1 at Fulham on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah had the chance to give the Reds the lead, but blasted his penalty straight at Martin Dubravka.

Salah eventually opened scoring, before Alexander Isak levelled in the 16th minute.

Curtis Jones finally put the hosts in front before Cody Gakpo doubled the cushion moments later.

Somehow, despite the one-sided nature of the stats, Newcastle got within one goal when Sven Botman headed home but Salah scored from the penalty spot after Diogo Jota controversially went down with the goal gaping.
