Alarming Financial Mismanagement at Lagos State House of Assembly: A Urgent Call for Transparency and Accountability

It has come to our attention, through reliable and verifiable sources, that since Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda assumed the role of Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, she has allegedly overseen the disbursement of approximately N18 billion in public funds under dubious circumstances.

As concerned stakeholders and advocates for accountability and transparency, we feel it is our responsibility to bring this matter to the public’s attention.

The people of Lagos deserve to understand how their resources are being managed, especially at a time when many communities continue to face inadequate infrastructure, poor healthcare, deteriorating road conditions, and declining social standards.

In light of these concerns, we are calling on the following actions:

  1. The Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly to immediately provide a detailed breakdown of these expenditures for public scrutiny.

  2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant anti-corruption bodies to initiate an urgent investigation into these financial dealings.

  3. Civil society organizations and the media to actively demand full accountability and transparency from the leadership of the Assembly.

The era of impunity and reckless financial management must come to an end. As we look forward to a new phase of governance, the people of Lagos can no longer tolerate secrecy in the handling of public funds. We stand firmly for good governance, accountability, and transparency.

We will continue to demand answers and urge all concerned Lagosians to join us in calling for financial transparency.
