AFCON 2023: Iheanacho declares himself fit for action

Kelechi Iheanacho has confirmed his readiness for action at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite joining the Nigeria squad late due to a muscle injury that required treatment at Leicester City, the 27-year-old forward expressed his fitness and eagerness to play in the upcoming matches.

Iheanacho arrived in Abidjan on the eve of Nigeria’s opening fixture against Equatorial Guinea and was listed among the substitutes for both that game and the subsequent match against Cote d’Ivoire. However, he is optimistic about making his first appearance for the Super Eagles against Guinea-Bissau on the upcoming Monday.

Speaking at a media session in Abidjan, Iheanacho stated, “I’m a hundred per cent fit at the moment. I’m good to go. I was lucky that it was just a Grade A muscle injury.”
