Liverpool overcame a spirited Bournemouth comeback to claim a 4-2 win in the curtain-raiser of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The defending champions, led by Arne Slot, wasted no time making a statement. New signing Hugo Ekitike announced his arrival in style, latching onto a through ball to slot past Petrovic for the opener. The French striker then turned provider early in the second half, setting up Cody Gakpo to double the advantage.
Bournemouth, however, refused to fold. Antoine Semenyo, who had been subjected to racial abuse earlier in the match, responded with two goals the second a dazzling solo effort to level the game and stun the Anfield crowd.
