Lagos eyes foreign investment at global summit

Over 1000 investors, business executives, and policy makers from about 50 countries will be hosted in Lagos at the forthcoming Invest Lagos 3.0 summit.

This is as the state intensifies efforts to position itself as Africa’s preferred investment destination.

The two-day summit, scheduled for June 8 and 9 at Eko Hotels and Suites, is expected to bring together global investors, development institutions, government officials and private sector leaders to explore investment opportunities across key sectors of the economy.

Speaking during a recent media briefing ahead of the event, Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, said the summit would serve as a platform for attracting capital, strengthening investor confidence, and promoting strategic economic partnerships.

She explained that the initiative, being organised in collaboration with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council and private sector stakeholders, has grown into a major economic engagement platform focused on connecting investors with viable opportunities in Lagos.

According to her, discussions at the summit will centre on sectors including infrastructure, technology, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, logistics, energy, financial services and small business development.

She added that the event would also highlight investment prospects within industrial hubs, export manufacturing corridors, innovation districts and digital commerce ecosystems across the state.

Ambrose-Medebem said participants would engage in high-level policy conversations, investment matchmaking sessions and business meetings designed to connect local enterprises with international investors and development partners.

She noted that Lagos continues to maintain a strategic advantage as one of Africa’s leading commercial centres due to its economic scale, expanding infrastructure and growing innovation ecosystem.

The commissioner further disclosed that one of the summit’s major attractions would be a governors’ investment showcase aimed at facilitating direct engagement between subnational governments, investors and business leaders.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Sam Egube, said the state has continued to prioritise economic expansion and infrastructure development despite global economic uncertainties.

He described the summit as an important opportunity to project Lagos and Nigeria as attractive destinations for investment, while urging stakeholders and the media to amplify the state’s economic potential.

Egube said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to strengthen Lagos’ global competitiveness and deepen private sector participation in economic growth.

On the technological aspect of the summit, the co-chairman of the technical committee, Toyosi Akerele, said organisers would deploy an artificial intelligence-powered digital dashboard to provide real-time monitoring and participation for delegates worldwide.

She added that students from Lagos State University and other tertiary institutions would participate in managing the summit’s digital command centre as part of efforts to promote youth involvement and technology-driven learning.

Akerele also disclosed that foreign delegates attending the summit would embark on guided visits to some of Lagos’ major infrastructure and industrial projects, including the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port and the state’s Blue and Red Rail Lines.
