2026 World Cup: Lamine Yamal makes emotional plea for Neymar
Barcelona winger, Lamine Yamal, has made an emotional plea for Santos forward Neymar Junior to be part of the squad that will represent Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament in the summer.
The Spain international spoke ahead of Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg tie with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old expressed his great admiration for Neymar, insisting that the former Paris Saint-Germain star was his idol while growing up.
“I hope Neymar Jr will be at the 2026 World Cup,” Yamal said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“He’s an inspiration for me, an idol since I was a kid”.
Neymar was not included in the last squad released by head coach Carlo Ancelotti during the March international break.
Ancelotti had already stated that the 34-year-old former Barcelona player needed to be 100% physically fit to be able to be in the Brazil squad.
