Nigeria’s push to produce stronger badminton players is taking a different route, with attention now turning to the coaches responsible for developing the country’s next generation of talents.
The Nigeria Olympic Committee and Badminton Federation of Nigeria will on Friday (today) begin a Level 2 technical coaching course in Abuja, bringing together selected coaches and technical officials for nine days of intensive training.
The International Olympic Committee-backed programme, running from September 4 to 12, will expose participants to improved approaches to technical and tactical development, athlete preparation, training planning and competition management.
Beyond the classroom sessions, the course is expected to strengthen the technical capacity of coaches working with Nigerian players and equip them with better tools to identify and develop promising talents.
NOC Secretary, Abba Ado Gumel, will coordinate the programme, while NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel, is expected to formally declare the course open.
For Nigerian badminton, the broader objective is to ensure that improvements at the player level are matched by stronger technical expertise on the bench.
