Wizkid And Nasty C Finally Link Up In The UK, 8 Years After That Legendary Co-Sign

Nigerian superstar Wizkid and South African rap phenomenon Nasty C have linked up in the UK, nearly a decade after Wizkid first put his stamp of approval on the rapper’s talent for the entire continent to see.

Back in August 2018, a clip of Nasty C spitting bars caught fire online and it caught the attention of two of Nigeria’s biggest stars. Wizkid commented directly under the video, declaring Nasty C the best rapper in Africa, full stop. Burna Boy chimed in right alongside him, calling Nasty C his officially favourite rapper. At the time, it was a massive co-sign two of Afrobeats’ most influential voices publicly crowning a South African hip-hop artist over more established names in the rap conversation, including Ghana’s Sarkodie, sparking plenty of debate across the continent’s music fanbases.
Fast Forward To 2026
Eight years later, the mutual respect hasn’t just held up it’s deepened. In fact, just months before this UK link-up, Nasty C used a podcast appearance in May 2026 to publicly credit Wizkid for reshaping the entire trajectory of African music globally. He specifically pointed to Wizkid’s 2016 collaboration with Drake on “One Dance” which holds the Guinness World Record as the first song to hit a billion streams as the moment that opened international doors for African artists, explaining that its success even pushed some rappers in Nigeria and Ghana to pivot toward Afrobeats because of how commercially lucrative the genre had become.
Given that Nasty C was already publicly praising Wizkid’s influence on the culture earlier this year, seeing the two of them physically link up in the UK feels less like a random pop-up and more like two long-time mutual admirers finally being in the same room.
Two Careers On Very Different, Equally Impressive Trajectories
The timing is notable for both artists individually. Nasty C is coming off one of the biggest moments of his career his fifth studio album, Free, released in September 2025 as his first major independent project after leaving Def Jam Recordings, became the fastest South African hip-hop project of 2025 to cross one million Spotify streams, eventually surpassing 15 million streams, hitting No. 1 on Apple Music in 12 countries, and charting in 45 countries worldwide a new benchmark for South African hip-hop on the global stage.
Wizkid, meanwhile, remains one of the most consistent live draws in the UK, having made history in 2023 as the first African artist to sell out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and continuing to headline major British venues as part of his ongoing international touring run.
