According to a Facebook disclosure from lawyer Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, Ezeokafor was allegedly abducted while praying alone on a mountain in Awka, Anambra State, after stepping out without his usual security detail and police personnel attached to him. Iwuchukwu said the businessman was reportedly picked up by unidentified gunmen during his prayer session and taken to an unknown location.

A separate report offers a slightly different account of the circumstances, with Daily Post reporting that Ezeokafor was allegedly abducted on a Tuesday evening after stepping out of his residence without his security men. As of now, the exact circumstances of the abduction have not been officially confirmed by police, and reports vary slightly on the specific details a common feature of breaking kidnapping cases in Nigeria before official statements are released.

A Community In Mourning

Ekwulobia community in Aguata Local Government Area has reportedly postponed its New Yam Festival, originally scheduled for September 4, 2026, specifically because of his abduction. The traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, His Royal Majesty Igwe Emmanuel Chukwukadibia Onyeneke, reportedly suspended the festival, with a community source stating that Ekwulobia cannot celebrate while their son remains in the custody of the kidnappers.

Iwuchukwu described Ezeokafor as the richest man from the community, adding that the scale of his influence is reflected in the community’s decision to halt one of its most significant annual traditions over his abduction.
