From EFCC Courtrooms to Lawyer Selfies — VeryDarkMan Reportedly Pulls Up at NBA’s Biggest Conference of the Year

Not the crossover anyone expected, but here we are. Social media activist VeryDarkMan is reportedly among the crowd at the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference (AGC) 2026 in Port Harcourt, with lawyers reportedly lining up for photos and videos with him on the sidelines of one of the country’s most prestigious legal gatherings.

What Exactly Is the NBA AGC?

For context on just how big a deal this event actually is: the NBA’s 66th Annual General Conference, themed “Beyond Limits ’26,” is running from August 21 to 28, 2026, at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It’s one of the largest annual gatherings of Nigeria’s legal profession, drawing Senior Advocates of Nigeria, judges, government officials, business leaders, and legal practitioners from across the country and beyond, with more than 45 sessions, 27 breakout tracks, and over 200 speakers on the programme. Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara declared the conference open, notably thanking outgoing NBA President Afam Osigwe for returning the event to Port Harcourt following the lifting of the state’s earlier state of emergency, and used the occasion to challenge lawyers and judges to resist conformity and keep the judiciary capable of holding government accountable.

This is, in other words, a serious professional gathering which makes VDM’s reported presence and the wave of lawyer selfies genuinely noteworthy.

Why Lawyers Would Even Want a Photo With Him

VDM’s relationship with Nigeria’s legal system hasn’t exactly been a quiet one. Between his very public activism campaigns targeting alleged corruption, celebrity misconduct, and institutional accountability and his own repeated brushes with the courts, including EFCC-related legal proceedings, he’s become an unusually familiar figure to Nigerian lawyers, whether they agree with his methods or not. For a segment of legal professionals who follow his cases and causes closely, seeing him in person at a major conference is apparently reason enough to grab a photo.

It also says something about how far his public profile has traveled from purely online activism and courtroom appearances as a defendant, to now being treated as something of a recognizable public figure within professional circles that would typically have little reason to interact with a social media personality.

Wahala Network Take

Whatever you think of VDM’s brand of activism, there’s no denying the man has become a genuine cultural fixture recognizable enough that even lawyers at a formal legal conference are stepping away from panel discussions for a quick selfie. Interesting crossover, to say the least.

We’ll keep an eye out for more moments from AGC 2026 as the week continues.
