Iheanacho Fires Bursaspor to Second After Six-Game Scoring Streak

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has made a blistering start to life in Turkey, scoring in each of his first six league appearances for Bursaspor to emerge as the division’s leading scorer, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 29-year-old has scored eight goals and provided two assists since joining the Turkish TFF First League side as a free agent in the summer, with his goals helping Bursaspor climb to second in the standings, just one point behind leaders Batman Petrolspor.

Iheanacho’s latest goals came on Monday, when he netted twice in Bursaspor’s 2-1 comeback victory over Manisa. The brace extended his scoring streak to six consecutive matches and, according to OptaCan, marked the first time in his career that he has scored in six straight games.

The Nigerian has now scored against Bodrum FK, Iğdır FK, Karagümrük, Kayserispor, İstanbulspor and Manisa, putting him two goals clear of second-placed Rey Manaj in the scoring charts.

His first goal against Manisa was particularly impressive, with Iheanacho driving towards the edge of the box before firing a low effort into the bottom corner. He then completed his brace in stoppage time, reacting quickest to a mistake by goalkeeper Vedat Karakuş.

Iheanacho joined Bursaspor after his contract with Celtic expired, following a productive end to his spell in Scotland. The Turkish club secured his services on a free transfer and have quickly been rewarded for the decision.

With Bursaspor targeting promotion to the Turkish top flight, Iheanacho’s goals have given them a major boost, while his exceptional start to the season could also strengthen his case for a return to the Super Eagles.
