Hood FC of Abuja have emerged as national champions of the 2026 5Stars Premier League after a commanding 4-1 victory over Lagos-based Sir J FC in the grand finale.
The triumph, achieved at the Showtime Arena in Lekki, Lagos, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, saw Hood FC extend Abuja’s dominance in the competition, with no team from another region having won the title since the league’s inception in 2019.
The Abuja champions, who were held to a 1-1 draw in a fiercely contested first half, turned on the style after the break, scoring three unanswered goals to seal the title, trophy and N4 million grand prize.
The eighth edition, tagged “The Reawakening 8,” also attracted significant support from corporate partners, including MTN Nigeria, PUMA Nigeria and Devon King’s, while international grassroots football development advocate Ricky Weir provided sporting equipment and engaged with players at the finals.
Beyond the trophy and prize money, the tournament served as a platform for emerging talents to attract the attention of international scouts, football agents and club executives, with several standout players reportedly placed on the radar for potential professional opportunities abroad.
