DFC Africa to host MMA Fight Night

The Dynamite Fighting Championship Africa is set to stage a Mega Fight Night on Saturday, December 26, 2026, in collaboration with Juli Rose Hotel and Suites, at the University of Port Harcourt, Choba, Rivers State.

The Boxing Day spectacle aims to showcase top mixed martial arts talent while strengthening Nigeria’s position on the global combat sports stage.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the event, President of DFC Africa and Ambassador of the Nigeria Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Henry George, confirmed that Nigeria has attained Grade A Federation status in MMA with full international recognition through its affiliation with the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation.

“We understand every step because of our years of experience and our international affiliation. We are affiliated with the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the world governing body. So Nigeria is a Grade A federation when you talk about mixed martial arts,” George said.

George emphasised that the event forms part of a broader strategy to elevate combat sports in the country, create platforms for homegrown fighters and position Nigeria as a competitive hub for international MMA competitions, adding, “We are talking about making a great statement as far as the world is concerned.”

Also speaking, DFC Africa leader and Nollywood veteran, Sam Dede, highlighted his passion for the sport and the importance of youth development.

“For MMA, I’m particularly fascinated by this sport because it’s new and the techniques are different, it’s a new world of martial arts all together. So we would want, you know, like the president, a lot of young people to get involved,” Dede stated.

Dede noted that MMA offers young people an opportunity to build discipline, self-confidence and physical endurance while creating a structured pathway for emerging athletes to gain exposure, expressing hope that “this whole event to act as some kind of inspiration for them to come out and participate in the sport.”

Representing the event partners, Programme Director of Juli Rose Hotel and Suites, Chindinma Azubuike, expressed excitement over hosting the championship, affirming the hotel’s commitment to providing technical and logistical support for a seamless event.

Azubuike stated that the collaboration aims to foster youth empowerment and bring an elite sporting experience to the University of Port Harcourt community and Rivers State.

The Fight Night will feature a series of high-profile international and domestic bouts, including fighters from Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon.

Among the scheduled matchups, Ivory Coast’s Bahbome Emmanuel faces Nigeria’s Godwin Ambrose, while Cameroon’s Ahmadu Edoja takes on Nigeria’s Jube Linuwa.

In all-Nigerian clashes, Ruth Okon battles Tarie Balelefa, while Joshua James locks horns with Godspower Cornelius.
