Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon, is one game away from joining Nigeria’s 100-cap club, after the Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that he has played 99 matches for the country, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Paris FC player will win his 100th cap if he features in Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar in Uyo. The Federation has concluded arrangements to honour him for the milestone.
Only Musa, Enyeama, Yobo and Alex Iwobi have previously reached 100 appearances for Nigeria. Simon would become the fifth.
He made his senior debut against Uganda on March 25, 2015, under interim coach Daniel Amokachi when he was 19.
The former Nantes winger has scored 12 goals for Nigeria. According to the Federation, the Super Eagles won 49 of the 99 games in which he was involved, drew 30 and lost 20. He has played 64 competitive matches and 35 friendlies, including 23 at the Africa Cup of Nations finals and 22 in World Cup qualifiers.
His first Nigeria goal came against Niger in Port Harcourt on September 8, 2015. He added another against the same opponents in Brussels a month later. He has since served under Sunday Oliseh, Gernot Rohr, José Peseiro, Finidi George, Augustine Eguavoen and Chelle, among others.
Simon was part of the team that finished third at the 2019 tournament and played in 2021, when Nigeria lost to Tunisia in the round of 16. He was also key to the run to the 2023 final in Ivory Coast.
He was named Man of The Match in the quarter-final against Angola after creating Ademola Lookman’s winning goal.
At the 2025 tournament in Morocco, he scored in the penalty shootout victory over Egypt in the third-place match.
A World Cup appearance has, however, eluded him. He withdrew from the 2018 plans through injury, Nigeria lost a playoff to Ghana for Qatar 2022 and missed the 2026 tournament after losing to DR Congo on penalties.
Former Nigeria winger, Tijani Babangida, described Simon as “a legend and a role model”. The Federation’s Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, called him “a patriot to the core, and forever passionate and dedicated to the Nigeria cause”.
Simon said the focus in camp is on the result, saying, “Rest assured that we will put up our best to win on Friday.”
