His message was defiant: “I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”

Why There’s Actually a Movement Restriction Today

Here’s the context that immediately complicates the story: Davido’s claim came shortly after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction on movement across Osun State, which began at midnight on Friday, August 14, and is expected to remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of security measures for the election. Thousands of police officers and other security personnel have been deployed across the state to maintain order during the poll.
That’s a standard, widely announced measure not something unique to Davido or specifically targeted at him, at least according to the public information available.

The Pushback Came Fast

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad wasted no time responding, and he didn’t hold back. He described Davido’s comment as “dramatic,” pointing out that security agencies had already publicly announced the movement restriction. His full response: “You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun. So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election.”
Ahmad wasn’t the only skeptical voice. Another X user, @Mz_Tosyn, questioned Davido’s position, writing: “Him and his audience are not aware of curfew on Election Day or they are pretending not to.”
