The war of words between Afrobeats superstar Davido and a growing list of Nigerian politicians over the Osun State governorship election just took a sharper turn. Hours after Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo mocked Davido’s uncle, Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, over his love for dancing, Davido reportedly fired back by sharing what he claimed was Okpebholo’s own WAEC result online.
How the Feud Started
The drama traces back to the countdown to Osun State’s August 15, 2026 governorship election, where Adeleke is seeking re-election under the PDP. As political tensions rose, Davido weighed in publicly, appealing during a press conference for a free and fair election and urging an unnamed politician from Imo State to allow Osun voters to freely choose their preferred candidate.
That appeal didn’t go unanswered. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s spokesperson fired back, dismissing Davido’s comments as misdirected emotional appeals and telling the singer to instead focus on preparing his uncle for life after office, predicting defeat for Adeleke at the polls. Uzodimma went a step further, mockingly suggesting Davido should get ready to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band.
Okpebholo Piles On
Not to be left out, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo joined the pile-on at an APC campaign rally in support of governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji. Okpebholo repeatedly mocked Adeleke’s well-known love for dancing, telling the crowd the Osun governor dances before signing official documents, before breakfast, and before virtually anything else — arguing it reflected poorly on his leadership. He went as far as linking Adeleke to former Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki, urging Osun voters to vote Adeleke out the same way Edo voters ousted Obaseki.
The remarks quickly went viral, sparking a wave of reactions online, with Nigerians split between defending Adeleke’s record and criticizing Okpebholo for focusing on another state’s politics rather than his own.
Davido’s Reported Response
According to posts circulating online, Davido responded to the mockery hours later by sharing what he claimed was Okpebholo’s own WAEC result seemingly as a tit-for-tat jab back at the Edo governor. It’s worth noting that a document purporting to be Okpebholo’s WASSCE result has resurfaced online before, previously stirring debate over academic credentials and leadership qualifications, though its authenticity has not been independently confirmed by WAEC or any official body.
